These days, smartphones and other devices have allow us to stay connected 24/7 even when you are out of the office. But have you considered at what point should you free yourself from them?
- Are you constantly checking your work emails during your holidays?
- Are you responding to these emails on your vacation time?
- Do you think it is appropriate to email those who are on leave?
On the workday just before your vacation, remember to turn on your “Out-of-Office” setting before you leave your office. Ensure that you inform others of your vacation period. You should refrain from inserting a line like this: “I will be checking emails intermittently during this time”. This is to avoid having people expecting you to do so while you are on holiday.
If you can’t stay away from your work emails, try setting a specific time to do that and abide to it. You might want to dedicate 30 minutes every morning to do so. Once the time is up, you should switch off your phone and take the opportunity to relax, recharge and enjoy non-work activities during your well-deserved break!
